Bed bugs are problem considered to be of the past, but now resurgent. The increasing incidence of bed bugs is thought to be due to the increase in travel, in particular to far away places. That having been said, many city hotels closer to home are now suffering from bed bug problems to an extent unimagined 20 years ago, so bed bug problems at home can follow even domestic business trips or city breaks.
Infestations at home begin when bed bugs are brought in on luggage or often second hand furniture from an already infested room.
Apart from their enhanced ability to hitch a ride from bedroom to bedroom, the main reason for bed bugs’ recent success is that they are difficult to kill, They hide themselves away in crevices, well protected from insecticides applied against them. They only feed on blood so they cannot be attracted out of their hiding places by insecticide baits and they are tough insects, very tolerant to many of the contact insecticides in the pest control arsenal. Finally they live very close to where people sleep, not the sort of environment where it is a good idea to apply large quantities of insecticide without care!
The combination of Oa2ki powder for application with PestFreeHome’s Mini Dust Applicator gives you a chance of resolving small, localised problems. We have selected a product to which bed bugs have low tolerance and which does not present a risk to people, together with the means of applying it where it matters, into those narrow cracks and crevices where bedbugs lurk. Look for joints in beds, bedside furniture and bedroom fittings; under dado and picture rails; beneath the edges of wallpaper. Check the mattress particularly tucked into the piping around the edge and under the buttoning. If you dod treat the mattress leave the dust in place for 3 days and then vacuum up the dust. Do not use the mattress during this period of treatment.
If you have a serious or persistent bedbug problem, do not try to solve the problem yourself. This is a job for a professional. If you are not sure who to approach use the PestFreeHome Ltd ‘Contact Us’ service, and we will do our best to assist you.
